Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Marisa Shearer and I’m a Zambian/British mother on a quest seeking the good life. My passion and work is photography (you can see more of my work at Marisa Findlay Photography) and teaching yoga. When I’m not doing that I’m embracing motherhood, in the best way that I can, and continuously reflective on self improvement in the many different forms that I have learnt along the way. I have created this blog to nourish my love of writing and by doing so, sharing the things that have inspired me and continue to enriched my life. Healthy eating, yoga, meditation, simplicity parenting and the wisdom of my female body.
From as far back as I can remember, I have been seeking ‘home’. I started the first sixteen years of my life growing up in Zambia and then the next fifteen years in various parts of the UK, with the odd excursion to far flung places like Australia and India. Now I find myself living in the Turks & Caicos islands with my husband and daughter and I feel that I have at last come to a place of home. Partly it feels like a physical place, however mainly it is a place I have connected with deep inside myself that travels with me wherever I go.
Malita is my middle name and it was also the name of my Zambian great grandmother who was a healer. I’ve written a blog post about why I’ve called the blog At Home With Malita here, however in a nutshell it’s about connecting with my ancestors, sharing from this higher space and honouring the wisdom.
My hope is that this blog serves as a place for you to come and hang out and reconnect with that place inside of you that feels like home – full of peace, tranquility and happiness.
